We are delighted to be hosting The Fridge Cleaner Cook Sarah Burtscher for an evening in our kitchen.

Waste Not Want Not is a cookbook based on the top 10 foods thrown out in NZ. Collectively we throw away 157,389 tonnes of food a year and all of this adds up to 1.7 billion dollars, so this book is very much needed. It includes over 80 great recipes and 40 plus tips and tricks on how to stop wasting food, whether it's from the Fruit Bowl, Fridge or the Pantry. And no matter what sort of "eater" you are, you will find a variety of recipes that are approachable and delicious.

About Sarah

Sarah lives with her husband & three fantastic children on a remote High Country Station up a long gravel road outside of Tekapo. At times she has had to ford four rivers just to do the school run (yes, no bridges in those parts) and lets just say the supermarket isn't exactly handy! Living remotely taught her to cook on her feet and use up what she had to hand, and most importantly 'you' are entirely responsible for your own waste when there's no weekly wheelie bin to hide it in!

..... "I had an idea. The idea was to turn my recipes that I call a "Fridge Cleaner" into a book.  Explaining ways of using ingredients, that are usually forgotten about and left to go bad in the back of the fridge to be eventually thrown out, to make tasty meals and snacks.  

I am appalled at the food waste issues here in New Zealand and when our country and the world went into Lockdown, with everyone cooking from home it highlighted how important it is not to waste food."
